The image at the left shows the effect that we are after. It is achieved by applying a volumetric material to a large sphere and viewing the sphere from the inside. By turning the sphere about the camera different images are created. You need to download the material here and import it into your User material library. Please note that this Material is Copyright © 2000 Peter Sharpe and as such may not be used commercially without written permission. It is available for personal use for your own images but credit for the material would be appreciated if you display any such image on your website. |
|
Create a suitable background for your image. Select Custom Sky, set sky colour to black, set haze to zero and deselect any clouds. |
|
|
|
Create a sphere and centre it in your image. Delete the ground plane. |

Enlarge the sphere to its maximum size by clicking and dragging on the scale control. If you click on the [A] button the Attributes panel should show a size for the sphere of 102400 Bryce Units. |

Apply the Gigertex Material and render to see something like this.
Now rotate the sphere about the X, Y or Z planes to find an area of interest.
To move an area of interest to the centre of your scene, without altering the appearance, it is best to drag it in wireframe mode whilst keeping an eye on the Nano Preview window.

You don't have to stick to a black background here the background or Sky Horizon colour has been set to red. You could also put back a ground or waterplane for a different effect. |

Changing the Field of View (FOV) of the camera can have a dramatic effect on your image. To the left is a view at the default FOV of 60 degrees. ![]() |

Here is the same view with the FOV set to 30 degrees. ![]() |
