Create a Terrain.
|

|
Drag the red spot of the brush colour down to black. Drag the hardness all the way to the right for a very soft brush. Enlarge the brush to the size you want for the inside of your crater. See image at left. |

|
Without moving the mouse keep clicking with the left button until the inside of your crater is more or less flat black in colour. |
|
|
Using the same brush click around the rim of the crater to lower any high peaks. |
|
|
Exit the Terrain Editor and render.
|
|
|
An interesting variation is to cut away part of the crater edge with a smaller brush to produce a secondary impact. An example of this can be seen below. |
